“Rookie Blue” is a Canadian TV show on ABC/Global that will have its season 5 premiere episode on Thursday, June 19 at 9pm. The show has been on the air since 2010 and it follows 5 young rookie cops from Toronto’s 15 division. You see the trials and tribulations the rookies have to go through both on the job and in the field. Shakefire had a chance to review Season 4 of the TV show before their season premiere. “Rookie Blue” is a cop drama that focuses a bit too much on the drama aspect and not enough on the cop aspects.
If I were to rank cop dramas that I have seen and watched over the years, “Rookie Blue” would probably be towards the bottom of my list. There isn’t much that sets the characters of this show, or the show itself, from other TV cop dramas. The acting is okay, but the dialogue and plots feel a bit immature and amateurish at times. Also, the pacing feels a lot slower than other cop dramas and the show seems to focus way too much on the drama. The bonus content was okay, but not enough to win me over.
“Rookie Blue” is an okay show, but does not really bring anything new or different to the table. I usually love watching cop dramas, but this show was a bit too overly dramatic and slow for me. I would have liked to see them more out in the field than the love triangles and gossiping. There are better shows out there, but if there is nothing else on, “Rookie Blue” is an average show to watch. For those reasons, I am giving the 4th season of “Rookie Blue” a “C-.”
