BOTTOM LINE

All in all, it was a flop in theaters for a reason and this release doesn't help it any.

In the trailers, The Lovely Bones appeared to be a beautiful movie along the lines of What Dreams May Come, but with a better story.  Unfortunately, things are not always what they appear to be...

QUALITY:
Great...picture that is.  The picture is crystal clear but the sound gets muffled at times, just as it was in theaters.  Whether that was intention to give the "dreamy" effect or not, it just didn't work.

BONUS FEATURES:
"Diary" of Peter Jackson.

The bonus feature is an exhaustive 15-week diary from Peter Jackson and screenwriter Philippa Boyens and, yes, it feels that long so don't bother with it.  A truncated version showing the key periods of filming would be nice.  The movie itself is a little less than ok.  Some of the movie is decent with good enough acting but the story lacks in a lot of ways and the cinematography just isn't as good as I was expecting.  All in all, it was a flop in theaters for a reason.
