Artist: Eyes Set To Kill Album: White Lotus Members: Alexia Rodriguez, Anissa Rodriguez, Caleb Clifton, Cisko Miranda Label: Foresee Records Tracks: 10 Type: LP Release Date: August 9, 2011 Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: D- Last year I reviewed the solo album of Alexia Rodriguez, Lexia’s Underground Sounds. If you take a quick gander over at that review, you’ll quickly see that it wasn’t much to write home about. Lo and behold, here’s the fourth record from Alexia’s main project, Eyes Set To Kill. And in what’s probably not a shock to anyone, just about everything I said about Underground Grounds applies to White Lotus. This is generic metalcore/mallcore at its finest. And…that’s about all I’ve got. Half of the album is full-on heavy rock and the second half is basically acoustic (and half of that half are covers). In fact, if I didn’t know better, I’d think that this was the follow-up to the Lexia solo album. The format is almost exactly the same, right down to the attempts at covering far superior bands (well, at least Nirvana is better…the jury’s out on Hole). At only a little over 30 minutes, this honestly feels more like an EP than a proper record. Between this, the lack of creativity and my general dislike for most of the music in this genre, I really didn’t care for this album. You might feel differently of course, but heed my warnings and proceed with caution. |
