Title: American Wedding Genre: Comedy Starring: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott Director: Jesse Dylan Studio: Universal Studios Runtime: 104 minutes Release Date: March 13, 2012 Discs: 3 Rating: ( )Grade: C- “American Wedding” was the third movie (not counting the direct to DVD spin off movies) in the “American Pie series and it was released in theaters in 2003. In anticipation of the new movie, “American Reunion,” all the movies in the series were re-released in the Blu-ray format. In this movie, Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) decide to get married and Stifler’s (Seann William Scott) interference make this special occasion a chaotic one. For this particular movie, the cast was drastically reduced from the previous movies and it was not as memorable. The picture quality was drastically improved and the sound quality was pretty good compared to when I watched this movie on DVD several years ago. Just like in “American Pie 2,” the music and soundtrack for this movie were really good and fitting for the movie. My favorite tunes from the movie were during the dance off in the gay club. Even though I thought the scene was useless and not funny at all, the 80’s mash-up mega mix was actually pretty good. Also, just like the other Blu-ray re-releases, they included loads of extras and hours of bonus footage for fans of the series. These few things were the only saving graces for this movie. I must admit that “American Wedding” had a better story and more of a plot than the previous movie in the series, but it felt more drawn-out and less comedic than all the other movies. The bad dialogue and homophobia is still present, but it was not as apparent as it was in “American Pie 2.” The only memorable comedic scene in the whole movie involved Stifler and a chocolate truffle. Other than that particular scene, I barely laughed throughout the whole movie. Also, I felt Stifler had a bigger spotlight than everyone else this time around and he was a lot more irritating than the previous movies, but not in any way as funny. They tried really hard to make this movie as funny as the original, but the old jokes have become cliché and repetitive. I think they should have stopped after the first movie because it was a great formula that can’t be re-created. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “C-.” |
