Title: Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer Genre: Horror Starring: Brian Krause, Lance Henriksen, Danielle Harris Director: Mark Vadik Studio: Anchor Bay Runtime: 90 minutes Release Date: June 28, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D- "Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer" is allegedly based on the true events of Fritz Haarmann, but I'd say very allegedly. In fact, not at all. Ok, so "Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer," is a movie about how (and why) a serial killer was made, but honestly it's where real actors go to die. Brian Krause, Lance Henriksen, Rae Dawn Chong... "Melodramatic" is a word for this, so is "embarrassing." Just because people die in horrible violent ways isn't the tragedy here, it's all that gratuitous gore. And the sounds...yuck. It's the kind of sound that directors use to mask the fact that their movie has no nutritional value at all. "Nope, we don't have much in the way of decent acting or sets, but let's turn up the volume on the girl getting gutted." It was filmed in high-definition, but the quality of the movie just comes across as "taped in front of a live audience." I didn't like it at all. The script is laughable, and it's a wonder how some of the lines were delievered with a straight face. Low budget films are always a bad thing, but this movie looked like it was filmed in someone's backyard with the camera they got for Christmas. Don't rent or buy, it'll by on SyFy soon enough. |
