Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Space Adventure features two episodes, one a full length feature and the other a short twenty minute episode. In the full length feature Mickey and his crew of Donald, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Toodles follow clues given to them by Professor Ludwig Von Drake that will lead them to a space treasure. Seems like an easy enough task right? Wrong! Space Pirate Pete and his helper Quoodles are onto them and he wants the treasure all to himself and will stop at practically nothing to get it. The two groups hop from planet to planet, meeting familiar faces along the way, in their effort to problem solve and discover more clues that will lead them to the ultimate space treasure.

In the second, never before seen, episode in the collection Goofy feels as if he is not as smart as the rest of the Clubhouse crew and is given a special thinking hat by Professor Ludwig Von Drake that will help him come up with smarter ideas. The mission is to help Clarabelle Cow find specific things like carrots and eggs and such. With Goofy and his special thinking hat can the crew find what they need and problem solve to get them back to Clarabelle?

If you’ve never seen Mickey Mouse Clubhouse it’s pretty simple to explain. You’ve got your favorite Disney characters using the same formula that made Blues Clues and Dora the Explorer famous, asking the audience to interact by problem solving from home. Mind you the Mickey and the Clubhouse crews world is a bit more fluid then those other two shows, but it’s basically the same idea. In both episodes your child will be asked to find shapes, associate seemingly random items with one another, and have themselves introduced to subtle lessons on colors and other building tools. The stories themselves are inspiring with lessons on self esteem, compassion, and courage. Even though I no longer have children that fit the demographic I certainly can remember back when they were younger and know that if this product were around back then it would have easily made the list of purchasable video’s simply for the feature film. I’ll be honest and admit that the shorter episode, though it works, has an obviously recycled story to it.

Another great thing about this DVD is that it also works with the Mickey Mote. The Mickey Mote is a remote control that works as a further interaction tool for your children to use. On it are four buttons that are a specific color and shape which match up with the problem solving attributes of the show, and other applicable Disney shows. I think that’s pretty cool and will only further engage your child in the learning process associated with the show. (Mickey Mote sold separately). On top of this feature you also get a digital copy and glow-in-the-dark stickers.
