Title: Paul McCartney: Live Kisses Genre: Documentary, Live Music Starring: Paul McCartney Director: Jonas Akerlund Studio: Eagle Rock Entertainment Runtime: 120 minutes Release Date: November 13, 2012 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B “Paul McCartney: Live Kisses” is a documentary about Paul McCartney recording his new album, “Kisses on the Bottom,” in the historically famous Capital Studios in Los Angeles. Paul McCartney is a famous singer/songwriter/musician from a small band you might know as “The Beatles.” “Kisses on the Bottom” is a collection of renditions of older songs that have either influenced or had a connection with Paul. He also included two original songs to add more of his personal touch to the album. Besides Paul, there are guest cameos by talented pianist Diana Krall, Eric Clapton, and Stevie to name a few artists that contribute to the album. If you are a Paul McCartney fan, this is a great documentary for you. A majority of the documentary was filmed in black & white, but the picture quality was surprisingly clear to the point you were able to see all the fine details. The songs themselves were a varied set list of classics with Paul McCartney twist. The sound quality of the documentary was crisp and sounded great. They also included lots of extras, such as music videos interviews, and featurettes, and a cool collector’s book cover/packaging to hold the Blu-ray disc. This is surely a great gift for any Paul McCartney fans out there. The only gripes I had were the actual performances and some of the commentary in the documentary. I understand they were recording in a studio and I loved the songs, but the performances were fairly bland and boring. Also, Paul makes lots of interesting faces as he sings and, since there wasn’t much else to look at, you are forced to stare at him grimace and look constipated as he sings. Also, there was some useful commentary in between the songs, but a majority of it was brown-nosing and ego-stroking that I could have lived without having to listen to. Other than that, this was a fairly good music documentary and I do recommend checking it out, especially if you are a McCartney fan. For those reasons, I am giving “Paul McCartney: Live Kisses” a “B.” |
