There seems to be a certain things required to do a movie like this.  First kid from the wrong side: Tyler Gage check, next opposite sex needing the kid for the wrong side to help out: Nora check. From there you will have to have one character not trusting the other, the character finally earning back the trust, one character doing something that pushes the other away, when the end comes they some how forgive each other, and then everyone dances. That is how it has been in everyone of this dance/cheering movies that I have seen and “Step Up” hits all things required. But some how it manages to do it without feeling completely like a rip-off and providing you with something a little of their own.

The dancing in this movie is pretty good and I really impressed with Channing Tatum after watching the bonus features and seeing he was not a dancer pre-filming. There is a little bit of depth added to this movie as cars are stolen, drive-bys happen, people are stabbed in the back, and the main characters are not one dimensional. The bonus features really add to this DVD release though. There are the standard bonus features with 7 deleted scenes with optional commentary, commentary by the director, Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan, bloopers which are actually kind of funny and short, and a making of where you find out the director is also a choreographer. The rest of the bonus features though really make this stand out. You have the following music videos: Samantha Jade’s “Step Up”, Ciara’s “Get Up”, Sean Paul’s “Give It Up To Me”, and Chris Brown’s “Say Goodbye”. Also some of you might remember the Myspace contest that was going for the movie. Here you get to see how some of the judging was done, a contestant montage, and the 5 winners full dance videos that were sent in. While it isn’t the most original of ideas for the plot it is one of the better executed. If you enjoyed “Save the Last Dance” you should pick this one up.
