“Zorro”, at least this movie version, was first released in 1975. However, it has been re-released on Blu-ray and digitally remastered. They also included several bonus features such as original trailers, a photo gallery, several actor bios, and a comparison between the original and digitally restored movie clips. In this movie, Zorro’s alter ego, Diego (Alain Deleon) witnesses the assignation of his good friend, who has just been appointed governor in a nearby town. Diego heads to the town, disguised as the governor, to avenge his friend’s death and deal with the corrupt Col. Huerta (Stanley Baker).

After viewing “Zorro,” the only real question I have is Why? For instance, why was this movie even re-released on Blu-ray? I know it was digitally remastered and probably looks a lot better than original, but I still found the picture quality to be very grainy. Also, I think it might be because Zorro was popular a bit before my time and I could not find too much I liked about the movie or Zorro himself. I thought the storyline was too cheesy and very predictable. Also, the music was irritating, especially the theme song, and the acting was mediocre. The only thing I somewhat enjoyed were the bonus features. However, it was odd to want to know more about a movie I did not even enjoy watching.

If you grew up in the 70’s and love Zorro, this is the perfect movie for you. However, I felt it was not enjoyable for me to watch and I found it to be un-relatable because I was an 80’s baby. The movie does have a lot of nostalgia for older audiences, but might be difficult for younger generations to comprehend or appeal to. For those reasons, I am giving “Zorro” a “D-.”
