Title: Horton Hears a Who Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family, Kids Starring: Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen Director: Jimmy Hayward Studio: Universal Runtime: 1 Hour, 28 Minutes In Theatres: March 14, 2008 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A+ Horton Hears A Who is one of the finest Seuss adaptations that I’ve seen in a very long time. Though I was worried about Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell heading the film it actually worked out for the best. Carrey was pretty much unrecognizable in his role as Horton and Carrell’s limited range of humor works well as simply a voice over. Surprised to find so many comedians that I never would have thought I’d see in a kids film as they are the raunchiest. You’ve got Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill, both of Superbad fame, Will Arnett from Arrested Development fame, as well as the great Carol Burnett, SNL alum Amy Poehler, and Isla Fisher and that’s just to name a few. The cast was excellent and the animation was probably the most imaginative and creative that I’ve seen in a film. You have a nod to the old school Dr. Seuss animation, of course the majority of the film being computer animated, and then a nod to Japanese animation which was probably the most hilarious of the film in my opinion. It was a clean film for everybody and it was hilarious. Looking back on all the mistakes Hollywood has made with Seuss; The terrible Cat in the Hat and the mediocre Grinch film, this film could possibly be the start of Seuss getting his due. An absolute must see film for kids and adults. Enjoy. |
