Show: Dora's Halloween Parade Genre: Action/Adventure, Educational, Family, Kids Studio: Nickelodeon Runtime: 97 Minutes Release Date: August 30, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: C+ Dora and all her friends get ready for the upcoming Halloween holiday with Dora’s Halloween Parade. This DVD consists of four episodes: Halloween Parade, Boo!, The Backpack Parade, and Dora, La Musico. Your little ones will find lots of Halloween fun while being taught how to problem solve, a new language, and other educational elements as they share an adventure with familiar friends. Before you sit down and watch this DVD with your kids let me get this out of the way so your not confused. The episodes begin with Halloween Parade which finds Boots and Dora on their way, in costume, to a parade the entire town is involved in. Along the way they run into Little Monster, literally a little monster, who is crying because he doesn’t have a costume. Dora and Boots acknowledge Little Monster as a familiar friend. In the next episode, Boo!, Dora and Boots once again come upon Little Monster, only this time Boots and Dora are amazed because they’ve never met a real monster before. This appears to be just a poor oversight that might confuse kids, and possibly parents. If you’ve ever watched Dora The Explorer before you wont be surprised to find that nothing has changed since Dora first hit the airwaves over a decade ago. The show follows Dora and Boots across a world map as they attempt to reach their destination and overcome obstacles in their way. As usual the adventure includes some interactive problem solving which is queued by Dora or Boots asking their viewers to help out with singing, observing and locating hidden items, or solving math problems, all while learning a bit of Spanish along the way. All four episodes follow this formula and all four have interesting stories to tell which have morality lessons for kids as well as motto’s to help them overcome the isms that eventually begin to pop up in their little worlds once they start school or begin social interaction with other children. Unfortunately the DVD doesn’t come with any bonus features and the last episode on the disc is a repeat episode from another Dora release which has little to do with Halloween. In fact the last two episodes out of the four have nothing to do with Halloween. Its common practice in children’s shows on DVD so nothing new. At $13.99 I would be more inclined to point out that you can buy two Dora Halloween episodes on Amazon VOD for $1.99 a piece and save yourselves a few bucks, or if your kids have to have a Dora Halloween special Amazon has a double pack for $17.99 which features both Dora and Diego Halloween themed DVD’s (2009) or Nick Jr. Favorites: Happy Halloween which features Dora, Diego, The Wonder Pets, Blues Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Ni Hao Kai-Lan, for the same price. These days every dollar counts and at least you get a higher value for your dollar with the other titles. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy. |
