Show: Fairy Tail Season/Volume: Part 4 Genre: Action/Adventure, Anime, Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Starring: Todd Haberkorn, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Jamie Marchi, Patrick Seitz, Tia Ballard Studio: Funimation Runtime: 300 minutes Release Date: March 20, 2012 Discs: 4 Rating: ( )Grade: B In Fairy Tail Part 4 we get a good look at two characters of the guild; Ezra, one of the mightiest guild members, and Laxus, the godson of guild leader Makarov. When we last left the Fairy Tail guild in the Part 3 release Ezra and her former friends had joined forces after battling one another and were attempting to stop Jellal from completing the Tower of Heaven and resurrecting Zeref. The fight continues in Part 4. For what it’s worth Fairy Tail is a great anime if your looking for a replacement for One Piece. It’s almost the exact same show except their wizards and not pirates. Unfortunately the scenario’s in the show have become flat out repetitious and predictable. One or more members of the guild will find themselves up against an opponent that seems too strong for them and they will either be saved or somehow find that they are stronger then they thought they were. It’s an interesting device to use that has been a mainstay in the anime world but when it’s the solution to almost every battle it starts to get old. If your going to drag a battle sequence out for three or more episodes it becomes a bit frustrating when the finale is always the same. This was one of the problems that I had with shows like Soul Eater and Hunter X Hunter. Story wise the show still has some entertainment value. There is a lot of scattered comedy and hilarious voice over work that keeps you interested. A lot of this release combined on going battles with flashbacks that added a bit of substance to the flow of the show. Ezra’s back story was interesting but Laxus’ story was even more interesting combining a bit of a love story (not what your thinking) with betrayal and anger. It gets you a bit invested in what’s going on even though your pretty sure you know how it will end, especially when considering everything I just said about the show and its recycled battle finales. All things considered there’s just enough here to make Fairy Tale Part 4 worth checking out. PICTURE QUALITY: BONUS FEATURES: |
