If you managed to get your hands on the first installment of Soul Eater on Blu-Ray, Soul Eater: The Meister Collection (BLU-RAY), then your pretty much up on what you can expect from the series as far as its aesthetic aspects. I still think the series has a fantastic look to it with only a few minor problems, but overall if you’re a fan of the series I would definitely suggest upgrading or simply purchasing for the first time, this series on BD. I have to be honest and say I am still disappointed in the finale of the series and wish they would have gone some other route but it is what it is.
QUALITY:
Like the last release for Soul Eater on Blu-Ray you will be amazed at how colorful the series looks with an enhanced touch of HD technology. The animation styles for the series are so all over the map which plays around with the overall color, but your never disappointed. Line definition is amazing as well, giving each character in the series an almost life like quality at times, and really emphasizing on objects and expression during close up shots of character profiles. Clarity is smooth with none of the usual suspects poking their head through the door and muddling up the picture. The only real complaint I have with the picture is that sometimes black levels don’t quite reach the depth they should be. Audio remains the same high quality sound it was from the first set offering up a great, almost, cinematic experience. Options are Dolby TrueHD 2.0 for the Japanese track and a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track for English.
BONUS FEATURES:
~Episode 30 commentary
~Episode 44 commentary
~Soul Eater Late Show: Tons of HD bonus here. Audio is Japanese with English subs.
~Textless songs
~Trailers: Nothing really new that I haven’t seen in other bonus packages on other Funimation releases other then Peacemaker which looks like it has a pretty awesome story.
