Show: The Universe Season/Volume: 6 Studio: A&E Home Video Runtime: 658 mins Release Date: May 15, 2012 Discs: 3 Rating: ( )Grade: C+ The sixth season of the History Channel’s “The Universe” features 14 episodes, all presented in rather stellar hi-def Blu-Ray. The general theme of the season six is a focus on the theoretical aspects of our solar system: how did it come into existence, does the sun have an evil twin, could UFOs exist, did God create the universe, etc. Through interviews with various experts, each episode explores one of those key questions and tries to grapple with what makes the most sense scientifically. Visually, this is a nice-looking set. As you might expect, there’s an abundance of CGI graphics throughout the program. They’re used creatively to convey the various theories presented, along with simply providing some cool imagery of our solar system and the universe at large. The Blu-Ray work is top-notch. In fact, if I had one critique, it would be that some times the picture is too crystal clear, making some of the CGI work look a little too noticeable in certain sequences. All in all, this is a pretty impressive release. If you’re into history and/or astronomy, this should be right up your alley. |
