Show: Las Vegas Jailhouse Episode(s): Premier Episode Genre: Reality Network: truTV Airdate/Time: January 31, 2010 10:00pm Rating: ( )Grade: B- I’m not going to lie to you and say that Las Vegas Jailhouse is any different from any other reality cop show out there. You’ve got your inmates who get a brief minute to tell their story and you have the officers who talk with them and handle their behavior. Its really nothing new but all in all the premier episode has some laughs, a human element, and gets you acquainted with how things are done in Sin City. Right off the bat the episode begins with a couple who are being charged with conspiracy, grand larceny, and (well there not being charged for it) trying to start a family in the jailhouse bathroom. This couple got me laughing and rightfully so with their attitude about their situation. You’ve got a couple of people who just can’t seem to control their tempers, one who eventually cooperates and one who finds out the hard way the consequences of resistance. Seeing them meet for a brief second is another little dose of comedy. Of course the shows human element aside from the officers and how they deal with the stress of the job are offered up in the shape of two women, one pregnant and one supposedly a preachers daughter, who have been booked for prostitution. While there are a few cases of prostitution there that night the way in which these two particular cases pan out are probably the most revealing. The pregnant woman seems happy claiming to be off drugs (a crack addiction) and looking to move away from the prostitution racket to make a better life for herself and her unborn baby. You want to believe her but you also have to take into account she’s in the jailhouse. The other woman who is booked on prostitution charges just can’t seem to be truthful about her situation. While the other cases are about people who’ve made mistakes these are ultimately mistakes they can put behind them while the prostitutes seem to be stuck in a never ending cycle. Sad really. The only really negative aspects of the show that I can point out are that the show doesn’t offer up much to separate itself from its many peers other then the show being filmed in Vegas and the camera work on the show is sometimes off. In one scene they show a pair of legs in high heels walking down the hall, no explanation towards who they belong to or where their going, just legs. Maybe the cameraman had a wandering eye. Other then that the premier episode was a fun one to watch and if you’ve got the time and reality jailhouse shows are your thing definitely check it out at least for a good laugh. Enjoy. |
