The guys from Brokencyde hail from Albuquerque, New Mexico and the group was founded in 2006. “Guilty Pleasure” is their third album release. They make great party songs and their beats hit you hard. They are a talented group, but have some issues to work out.

After listening to “Guilty Pleasure,” the first things I noticed about Brokencyde was that they like to party, know how to party, and their beats are awesome. Most of their beats remind me a lot of Far East Movement or The Cataracs. Brokencyde wants you to get up and dance and jump around when you listen to them. My favorite songs on this CD were “Burnin,” “Whoa,” and “Doin my Thang.” These songs were the whole package and perfectly showcased what Brokencyde is capable of. I just wish they stuck to this formula. 

These guys are pretty good rappers, but their singing is average and is not really anything special. For instance, on “Phenomenon,” they sound more like a boy band and Paul Wall steals the spotlight from Brokencyde. Also, the yelling on some of their songs was irritating and unnecessary. Lastly, “Oceanview” is a slow song that did nothing for them and could have been left out.

I enjoyed a majority of the CD, but they need to work on some of their issues if they want to be taken seriously. I loved their beats and their whole vibe, but they can either work on their singing or refrain from doing it altogether. I think you should give this CD a listen, but would only recommend about half of the album. For those reasons, I am giving “Guilty Pleasure” a “C.”
