Artist: Neal SMith Album: Killsmith Two Members: Neal SMith Genre: Rock Label: CDBY Tracks: 12 Type: LP Release Date: December 15, 2011 Rating: ( )Grade: D Neal Smith is the former drummer for Alice Cooper. “Killsmith Two is Neal’s 3rd solo album release. The CD has 12 tracks with cool song titles and a strong old school rock vibe. The instrumentals on the whole CD were well done and his band really knew how to rock. The solos and the intros were all very fitting and awesome to listen to. My favorite song on “Killsmith Two” was “Cemetery of the Damned” because it had all the components of a great song. Even though I didn’t like every song, I truly enjoyed every instrumental on the album. Neal’s band is really talented and set the tone for the whole CD. My major gripe with the album was the vocals. The vocals single-handily would have killed this album if it weren’t for the instrumentals. There wasn’t a lot of range or variety in the singing and the vocals did not seem to fit in with most of the songs. If you add the fact that most of the lyrics were awkward and should have been sung by a younger person, this was a recipe for a disastrous album. Neil always sounded like he was struggling to get through the song and it never felt right. “Cemetery of the Damned” was the only song that felt right for him and he sang that song perfectly. Other than that, you should listen to the instrumentals, but ignore the vocals and bad lyrics. For those reasons, I am giving this CD a “D.” |
