Title: American Pie 2 Edition: Unrated Genre: Comedy Starring: Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott Director: J.B. Rogers Studio: Universal Studios Runtime: 111 Minutes Release Date: March 13, 2012 Discs: 2 Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Interesting Tidbits The house where the female owners make out is really across the street from the house used in the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off. " The sequel to the hit comedy movie, “American Pie,” was released in theaters in 2001. “American Pie 2,” and the other sequels to the series, have been re-released in Blu-ray format in anticipation for the “American Reunion” movie in theaters now. The entire cast from the first movie returned for this sequel. In this movie, everyone has just finished their first year of college and head back to their home town to catch up. The group decides to rent a summer beach house to throw more parties leading up to their end of the summer bash. I had to watch this movie again because it felt like the least memorable movie in the American Pie series. The picture quality was very sharp and the music quality was definitely improved from the previous versions of the movie I have seen. The soundtrack was also a lot better for this movie and the song choices were more fitting and memorable than in the original American Pie movie. Also, loads and loads of extras and bonus material were included in this Blu-ray package. They had everything from bloopers to deleted scenes to director commentary and cast commentary from pretty much everyone in the movie. All the extras are a nice touch for American Pie fans. After this watching this movie again, I was reminded at how chauvinistic and homophobic this movie was compared to the original movie. I thought this was the weakest and most easily forgotten movie in the series. The awkward moments and potty humor is still here, but it was not as good as the first movie. Besides the “champagne” shower scene, lesbian make out scene, and the glue incident, the rest of the movie was a blur for me. The plot was generally weak and the dialogue was pretty bad compared to the original movie. The only saving graces for this movie were the music and the extras. For those reasons, I am giving this movie a “D+” because this is where the series started to lose its luster.
