Interesting Tidbits

Oded Fehr (who plays Ray in the movie), has appeared in several of the Resident Evil Movies and the Mummy Trilogy.

“Super Hybrid” is set in Chicago and features a morphing car that is living and breathing and has the same powers and sound effects as the aliens from the “Predator” franchise. The Super Hybrid somehow gets in a car accident and is towed to a garage, where the rest of the movie takes place. The mechanics, Tilda (Shannon Beckner), Bobby (Ryan Kennedy), and their manager Ray (Oded Fehr) are stuck having to deal with the Super Hybrid as it continues to feed and kill. The car’s scheme for killing people usually involves morphing into a cool car, luring its victims inside, and then killing them. This happens over and over again until the mechanics figure out the Super Hybrid is more than a car.

There were only few things that appealed to me about this movie. The music was great and added a lot to the mood of the movie. The cars the Super Hybrid morphed into were cool, except for the station wagon, to look at. The picture looked very sharp and crisp and was what I expected from a blu-ray movie. Lastly, the navigation bar and the behind the scenes reel, the only special feature on the whole blu-ray, were creative and more interesting than the rest of the movie.

I found a lot of things wrong while watching Super Hybrid. The biggest and most visible problems with the movie were the bad dialogue, horrible acting, and unrealistic and cheesy looking CGI. The actors were not believable or likeable and I did not feel any remorse when they became victims for the Super Hybrid. Also, the pacing of the movie was too slow and predictable and there were several plot holes. Lastly, the fact that a majority of the movie was set in the garage, the movie became repetitive really fast and made me lose interest.

The premise for this movie was interesting, but the execution and the twist killed it. I have seen other possessed car horror movies before and liked them, but this has to be at the bottom of list. I do not recommend this movie to anyone and am grading this movie a “D.”
