Title: Trigger Genre: Drama Starring: Molly Parker, Tracy Wright Director: Bruce McDonald Studio: Wolfe Video Runtime: 83 miniutes Release Date: November 22, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: C "Trigger" is the story of indie-girl-band-legend-of-the-same-name's ten-year reunion. Vickie (Wright) and Kathyrn (Parker) were the darlings of the indie scene just over 10 years ago but a majormelt down tears them apart. Ten years and several anonymous meetings later, the now clean and sober duo meets again for a Women in Rock tribute in their old haunt and stomping ground. There are demons to deal with, apologies to be said, and one really sorry cat fight that ends in the only decently-acted scene of the entire film. Roll credits. I'll be frank. "Trigger" is a talky-talky character piece which ordinarily is just fine for me, but this film is just flat-out whiny. The first 15 minutes alone tested me to the point of almost turning it off, but I hung in there. Still I wasn't impressed and the actual highlight of the entire movie was recognizing three actresses from the current run of the Degrassi series. Molly Parker and Tracy Wright (d. 2010) did a fine job with what content they were given; I just wasn't that excited to listen to two women who can't deal with crap that happened 10 years ago. Maybe it's just me. "Trigger" has won several indie film awards and was a selection at the Toronto International Film Festival. |
