The REAL Michael Oher

Michael Oher was drafted 23rd overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 1st Round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) was homeless, friendless and had nothing going for him, that is, until he met Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) and is taken in by her family. With his larger than life stature, Michael is perfect as an offensive lineman for the local school football team, although he has to learn to play before he can become the best at what he does. It’s the remarkable true sports story we’ve seen dozens of times on screen, or is it?

Surprisingly, most of the movie isn’t about football but more about how we are as humans. It’s a touching story about love and friendship. Michael Oher has practically nothing but a bag of personal items and Leigh Anne Tuohy takes him in, making him a part of the family. Michael finally is accepted by people and learns what it means to have those who care about him. Throw in some big names in football, along with a few inspiring scenes and you’re good to go.

Aaron is the perfect person to play the innocent giant. While he looks rather intimidating, in reality, he’s a sweet and protective person who’s just fallen on some hard times. You make an emotional connection with him and feel sorry for him when things go wrong as well as celebrate when things go well.

Bullock plays the mother figure throughout the film by taking care of Michael as well as the rest of her family as they adjust to their new addition. Even though she plays a ridiculously rich member of society, the movie does a good job making her more down to earth and not some snob. At times she can be harsh and imposing, but she always appears to have this nurturing aura around her.

Bullock and Aaron aside, the best performance goes to the little guy, Jae Head, who plays S.J. He is phenomenal as the youngest son of Leigh Anne and becomes Michael’s best friend and brother. He has a larger than life personality that you can’t help but enjoy.

Think twice about seeing this movie after watching the trailer. You might think it’s just another stereotypical football movie that’s inspired by a true story but it’s so much more than that. It’s about something we can all connect with and relate to, and if you enjoy football, then that’s just an added perk. Give it a chance and you might like it.

The Blind Side

This movie is much better than I expected from a sport theme movie. It's a little long, but I really enjoy the story. Many of the scenes from this movie were shot in Atlanta including one right inside my office building in Buckhead; so that's kind of cool.

Awesome Movie

If you haven't seen Blindside yet, then plan to see it this weekend. This movie makes you laugh, cry, get angry, want to get even and come out feeling really good. Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates all did fabulous jobs with their roles, as well as the main children in their roles. I would recommend this movie to anyone and plan to buy it as soon as it hits the shelves in the stores.

Don't miss it!

The Blind Side is not blind

I like movies based on a true story, especially ones with a happy ending. This is a good movie, with good acting (not Tim McGraw who smiled a bit too much and too much of a yes-man, and the daughter too). And the story may be sugar coated quite a bit, but overall it's a feel good movie and it's good to know there are people who care in this world.

Great Movie

Being a true story makes it even more compelling. Great acting all around. It's a feel good movie with funny and sad parts.

A must see

I thought this was a great movie. The story alone makes it a must see, but it goes beyond that. I thought the acting and writing were excellent. Its not overly dramatic, or intentionally a tear jerker. Just a great story with an honest to goodness real life happy ending.
