Show: Timmy Time Season/Volume: Go Kart Timmy Studio: Lyons / Hit Ent. Runtime: 45 Minutes Release Date: November 22, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 Rating: ( )Grade: B- As many times as I have covered the kids show Timmy Time I have never been able to shake the ridiculousness of a show featuring anthropomorphic characters that speak in only short animal sounds. The show is pretty simple so I feel like detracting a means of verbal communication seems a bit counterproductive. Mind you the characters manage to tell a short story with their odd movements but I still have not been able to get used to the show. Timmy Time: Go Kart Timmy, is as you would expect, a collection of episodes, some, containing Timmy on wheels, the first of which is the title episode. In this episode Timmy is eager to ride in the school go kart. In my opinion Timmy is pretty rude in going about getting his chance, somehow bypassing a line of other children. Once Timmy has the go kart he wreaks havoc which seems to be rewarded afterward. That’s the episode. I understand it, kind of, but it seems to have a mixed message as far as consequences for misbehaving and being rude to others. Timmy On Wheels is the next and only episode in which Timmy actually does have wheels. I liked this episode in which Timmy and a friend teach one another how to ride two very different kinds of riding toys. Once that episode is out of the way Timmy Wants To Win is up and keeps up with a good moral message in the storytelling. Its a bit of a recycled storyline but it works. The school is having a mini-Olympics in which the winners of each competition receive a sunflower as their trophy. Timmy dreams of having one of his own and when his chance comes along fate gives him the opportunity to win it all or help a friend. Then Timmy and his school mates are given instruction in football (the U.K. kind) and Timmy is a natural but baby owl is not. This episode has a great message but it’s marred a bit by an annoying use of a whistle. It’s not just a few bursts of whistle but long shrill toots. In the final episode in the collection, Timmy’s Train, Timmy and Cat (I guess is what he would be called) become competitive when the class plays trains. Timmy wants to be the engine but so does cat and they go at it with an artful battle of designer engine cars made out of cardboard, paint, and other accessories. I can see how small children can relate to this kind of jealous competition. Again, a great episode is marred a bit by the use of, yet again, a whistle. Terrible that, but a decent moral in the storytelling. In the bonus section you get a bonus episode from the Shaun The Sheep series that stars Timmy as he explores a big top circus tent and sends the farm into a panic. You also get Timmy’s Tune #1 which is horrible. Imagine that Jingle Bells version with cats and there you go. Trailers close out the bonus section. Pictures: |
