Show: Scarecrow and Mrs. King Season/Volume: The Complete Second Season Genre: Action/Adventure Starring: Kate Jackson, Bruce Boxleitner Studio: Warner Home Video Runtime: 1087 Minutes Release Date: March 22, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 5 Rating: ( )Grade: B- Factoid: Due to Jackson being treated for breast cancer during the fourth season, her role was drastically reduced in later episodes and the series was canceled after the season was over. ~Wikipedia When a mysterious stranger approaches her at the train station and dumps a package in her lap Amanda King doesn’t quite know what to do. The instructions are simple; Find the man in the red hat and give him the package. Problem is that there are a number of men in red hats thus begins Amanda Kings venture into the world of espionage where she solves the mystery of the package, saves the mysterious stranger, agent Lee Stetson, and subdues their pursuers. And that was just the pilot episode for season one. For anyone who grew up in the 80’s you’ll recognize the trademark points of Scarecrow and Mrs. King. There are car chases, fist fights, gun fights, explosions, and since this is a show that was meant to cater to both the male and female audience a bit of romance as well. For all its worth takes every staple of its time period and tosses into one basket, and with a little charm manages to become a passable viewing, even if Kate Jackson (Charlie’s Angels) manages to take the Amanda King character and turn it into one of the worst acted roles on TV I’ve seen, topped only by this generations Demi Lovato. Never mind that when you say Bruce Boxleitner’s (Tron) character name the Stetson Man theme pops into your head, Boxleitner does a halfway decent portrayal of his character if it weren’t for the bad dialogue and throw your head back and laugh foolishness of the acting. Scarecrow and Mrs. King Season 2 has it all as far as television goes, especially when considering today’s television. The duo head to London, Germany, and the Caribbean (on location) and are met on screen with such familiar faces as Simon Callow (Shakespeare in Love, Doctor Who), James Cosmo (Braveheart, Sons of Anarchy), Jean Stapleton (Archie Bunker), and more. Seriously its everything you ever knew about 80’s action shows rolled into a soap opera. Quality of the picture is unfortunately source. If you can’t remember how picture quality was back in the 80’s before HD then this will be a reminder. You’ve got little specks popping up all over the picture, grain, the usual. If it was good enough to air on TV back then rest assured its going to be fine for DVD but fans will miss any chance at bonus features here as there are none. For a show that garnered quite a few rewards in its day its hard to believe that there isn’t something floating around out there for the fans or something that could be put together for the occasion of its release. In any case if you’ve been waiting to see season 2 in its entirety you’ll be more then satisfied. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy. Pictures: |
