Louisiana is the home of America’s largest swamp where the animals are mean, big, and very dangerous. While nature might be mean it’s the people that live in the swamps that have been using what is there to survive. ‘Swamp People’ follows along with a group of alligator hunters in the Louisiana swamps during hunting season. This hunting season only last 30 days and in these 30 days these hunters will have to do all they can to be able to survive and in the swamps where survival means taking down a 750 pound alligator, anything can happen.

What I Thought of ‘Swamp People’:
This show is all about a bunch of guys going out in the swamps in Louisiana killing a lot of alligators. At first the show was interesting to watch. All the cast on this show are characters that are interesting to watch and had me waiting to just hear how they talk. Though the accents and their speech patterns only held so much interest for me before I started to get bored with it. It wouldn’t have been that bad if the rest of the show could hold my attention but even that got boring to watch after around the fourth episode.

With 10 episodes in season 1 of ‘Swamp People’ I was tired of watching the show by episode 5. There’s the typical drama in these episodes, along with the typical formatting of the show to make each episode more dramatic as well as drawing out the length of it. The only thing that wasn’t in there that needed to be there was having the episodes have enough difference between them so they don’t end up seeming like one very long episode. Pretty much all I was watching with this show is the hunters in boats looking for alligators, getting them up to the boat with a too small sized rope, shooting them, pulling them into the boat, and then taking the gators back to where they sell the bodies.

By watching 1 episode of ‘Swamp People’ I could have been done with watching the whole season. I know there was supposed to be tension in the hunt and seeing it, as well as a building of drama as the hunting season gets closer to the end while these guys try to hunt down each of their own next biggest gator, but it all just ends up being the same thing over and over again for 10 episodes. It really did seem like I was just watching the same episode repeatedly until the season was finally over. It got old really fast but that was not the only down side to this show, the narrating got annoying as well. Throughout every episode is the narrator telling about what’s going on, which is normal and needed, but to a certain extent. With ‘Swamp People’ the narrating goes way overboard. It’s like every other scene has the narrator telling me what’s going on, what the hunters need to do, the size of the gator, how dangerous it could be for what they are doing, and so on and so on to the point that I was wanting to put the television on mute.

Still, the show has some interesting moments that make it semi fun to watch. Not for the killing, though it’s not for me I understand why it’s done but it’s not the interesting part of the show for me. What is, was seeing the gators, though dead, some of these creatures were so big that they really do look like monsters. There’s no way I would ever do anything that these guys do, it’s crazy dangerous and just down right crazy, but watching others do it is a lot safer and at times interesting. If the show had a little more varity in it I would have liked ‘Swamp People’ a lot more than what I did.
