TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL:
Todd Smith (played by Alex House) has 2 desires in his life, to win the love of Jenny (played by Maggie Castle) and to become the world’s best heavy metal singer. In reality though Todd can’t play a single cord on the guitar, the girl of his dreams barely notices him and when she does it’s only to call him a idiot, and his best quality is being able to have fun with his best friend Curtis (played by Billy Turnbull). Just when Todd’s life can’t get any worse when he looses battle of the bands contest, he finds the book of pure evil. Anyone using the book will get their deepest, darkest, desire but it will possibly be the death to the user or anyone even in the vicinity. With the help of Hannah (Melanie Leishman), the schools guidance councilor Atticus (played by Chris Leavins), and the janitor Jimmy (played by Jason Mewes) Todd has the chance to stop the book of pure evil.

PURE EVIL AT CROWLEY HIGH:
Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is such a funny and shocking show that I couldn’t stop watching it for the 290 minutes of this first season. I was not expecting anything like what happens in this show. When I read the description I thought it was going to be this corny comedy about a guy in high school that has to fight evil, which it is but it’s also so much more than just that. It’s pretty easy to follow what’s going on, Todd who’s the hero of the show finds a book that will give him his desires but the book is evil. Once the evil is unleashed it’s up to him to fight it from taking over the school. And there in lies the comedy of the show, having to fight evil at every corner but it’s not the typical evil out there.

There’s a lot of originality in this show, it’s well written, and the cast work great off each other. These are just the tip of the iceberg for what makes Todd and the Book of Pure Evil so funny to watch. Watching these two best friends fumble their way around as they have to fight off 6 foot tall babies, living crotches, having all the guys in the high school turned gay, but then there’s also the odd comedy of Jason Mewes and a very creepy guidance councilor. What I wasn’t prepared for though was how graphic some of the violence is on this show, as well as the cussing, or how realistic the dialog is between the characters. Even though the topic of a book that will unleash evil on anyone using it wasn’t quite that believable, the way the characters talk to each other is very believable for high school students. Having the cursing, the sexual tension, and the rude behavior allows the show to have that extra edge.

What sold me on this show was in the second episode when the little evil version of Todd is running around killing people. Yeah it don’t sound like something that should be making the show better but it’s so funny watching this little creature running around. The best way that I can describe this show is that it’s Scooby Doo come to life, except for people in masks it’s actually evil monsters and people that they have to fight. Todd and the Book of Pure Evil might be horror but by the time I was through with the second episode I’d almost forgotten that it was. That is until all the gore of exploding body parts, blood squirting out everywhere, and all the other violence that appears in the show but at no time does it take anything away from it. In fact having all the gruesome scenes progress the story while also making it funny.

The show is very clever in how it can take such a topic of evil acts by turning it around and making it funny. There’s a lot of clichés in this show, like how the hero is a underdog who ends up being the hero and also having the girl of his dreams, ok well not quite getting the girl but that’s one other aspect that I liked. Instead of just having the female lead falling for the male lead, the show has them remain friends at best while also allowing her to not really like him. There wasn’t any time when I was going will they or won’t they and it works because there’s no need to have these two characters getting together. Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is very witty with it’s writing, the editing on the show has each episode seemingly fly by, and the cast make the characters so funny with their facial expressions that I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen in season 2.
