It seems that there has been a debate about weather or not SACD’s really do have a higher sound quality then just regular CD’s (that study was published in 2007), but from my experience with the recently released Limited Edition Peter, Paul and Mary Hybrid SACD/CD I have to say that I was fully impressed by the audio quality.

The bands self-titled album, originally released in 1962, is so crisp and clear with its remastered stereo surround that the entire album sounds as if you are in the room with the band as they record it. Guitar is subtle at times while the trio’s vocals achieve clear channels of their own creating this dizzying harmonization that simply hypnotizes you as you listen.

I think this is a great release simply for the fact that I’d never listened to this group before, never even glimpsed a song from the album, but from the audio production alone I found myself compelled to listen. It’s amazing to be able to hear the musicians interacting with their instruments, vocals sounding so close, to even the most subtle of hand claps. This is an absolutely superb release sure to impress any fan or audiophile.

It’s important to note that the album is hybrid in the fact that it can be played on both regular CD equipment as well as SACD equipment. I would suggest running it through your Blu-Ray player, or if you have a PS3 (it’s probably safe to assume the PS4 has the same capability) that’s connected to a decent surround sound system. According to research your BD player will have the capability to reach the SACD sound quality. Most Sony and Phillips players should have this capability as the SACD format was created in conjunction with the two companies.
