.hack//Quantum is a three-part OVA series based on the popular videogame/anime franchise .hack. The story follows three friends who get caught up in the middle of this strange phenomenon in which players of the MMORPG The World fall mysteriously into a coma after their in-game counterpart of PK’ed. When one of them falls victim, it’s up to the others to solve the mystery and hopefully awake their friend from her slumber.

QUALITY:
The animations are wonderfully rendered, and the visuals are clean and sharp. Occasionally, it uses some less-than-impressive CGI rendering for vast backgrounds or some interesting first person perspectives, but for the most part, the visual style of the anime retains its classic appeal. One of the things about .hack//Quantum that excels is its way of blending the real world with the game world and how it shows a very futuristic, fully integrated gaming reality. For gamers, .hack is a must-see anime.

BONUS FEATURES:
- Go, Our Chim Chims!! Parts 1-3
- Yui Ogura’s ‘Yui-Yui Cooking’
- Yui Ogura’s ‘Yui-Yui Club’
- Yui Ogura’s ‘Yui-Yui Cult Quiz’
- Promotional Videos
- Original Commercial
- Pre-Release Promotional Video
- U.S. Trailer

For an anime, there are surprisingly a lot of bonus features. The Chim Chims!! videos are funny little skits with the little purple creatures featured in the series. Yui Ogura is a Japanese pop icon and she has a handful of these instructional videos surrounding .hack//Quantum. They’re a little bit strange but for those caught up in the whole anime culture, they can be interesting.

Overall, the .hack//Quantum OVA collection is a great Blu-ray to own, especially if you’re into anime, videogames, or the .hack franchise. It’s a little disappointing that the entire thing is only three episodes long but it does manage to neatly wrap up a full story in that length. Personally, I would have liked it to last a bit longer. That shows just how good it is.
