Working in the CIA gives a person access to the latest and greatest technology around. Normally, it’s used to find the most dangerous wanted criminals in the world but for operatives Tuck (Tom Hardy) and FDR (Chris Pine), it’s more for a personal issue. Both men just so happen to be dating the same woman, Lauren Scott (Reese Witherspoon) and in an effort to woo her, both become the epitome of stalkers to gain the upper hand against the other.

While they may be best friends on the force, Tuck and FDR couldn’t be more different. Tuck is a romantic at heart and after his divorce with his wife he’s looking for someone to share his life with. FDR on the other hand is more of a ladies man and looking for the next hot chick around the corner. By chance, the two end up going for the same woman which soon escalates into an all-out competition to see who can get the girl first.

Tom Hardy, Chris Pine, and Reese Witherspoon seem like an odd combination of actors at first glance but they surprisingly mesh well together. Hardy brings his charm and wonderful British accent to the scene while Pine delivers with his overbearing macho man attitude. Witherspoon relies mostly on her good looks and sweet girl persona. When it comes to laughs, they dynamic between Hardy and Pine doesn’t disappoint.

The previews for This Means War simply do not give the film justice. If you can put the ridiculous nature of the plot aside, the film is laugh out loud funny. The lengths these two agents go through to impress Lauren is crazy. Under normal circumstances, wiretapping a person’s house or using government property to collect intel on them would result in someone getting fired but for Tuck and FDR, it’s just another day in the office. No cost is too expensive for these two as they go as far as employing flying surveillance drones just to get a glimpse at what Lauren’s doing. What so hilarious about the situation is the fact that she remains oblivious to the fact that they’re both CIA agents and that they know each other.

This Means War will leave audiences laughing hysterically. It’s has the perfect blend of action and comedy as well as a little bit of romance for good measure. The plot has some holes in it and there are a few things that should have been done differently, but overall, it’s a pleasant surprise that’ll leave you smiling when all is said and done.
