Title: Love Ranch Genre: Drama Starring: Helen Mirren, Joe Pesci, Taryn Manning, Sergio Peris-Mencheta Gina Gershon Director: Taylor Hackford Studio: National Ent Media Runtime: 117 minutes Release Date: November 9, 2010 Format: BLU-RAY Rating: ( )Grade: C- Bottom Line: Overall the film leaves to an underwhelming experience that is easily forgettable. Despite some great performances, there really is nothing to recommend about this misfire of a movie. Here is proof that great actors don't save a movie. Love Ranch is 1970's period piece about the first legal brothel in Nevada. The story revolves around Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci, the couple that runs the brothel, and focuses on the affairs the two have and how that affects their relationship. As said in the beginning, this film really does shine with its performances. Between the two leads and the rest of supporting cast, there really is nothing but compliments to be said about each actor. Especially with Mirren. Anytime she is on screen she kept my full attention. Unfortunately, the rest of the film struggled to keep my attention. There were a slew problems that left this movie hindered, and became more and more noticeable as the film went on. The biggest problem was the familiarity-the movie makes no attempt to evade every cliche out there, which left no surprises. To add insult to injury, all of the cliches have been done much better. Overall, there wasn't anything that could be said was well done. The script was average at best, the cinematography added nothing to the movie-which was quite noticeable because of the great scenery that was underutilized. Overall the film leaves to an underwhelming experience that is easily forgettable. Despite some great performances, there really is nothing to recommend about this misfire of a movie.
