>> Glee: The 3D Concert Movie (2011)

In 2009, Glee took the television world by storm with its array of cast members, each of whom has a unique story to tell covering social topics that were sometimes right of the edge of what’s comfortable on TV, all the while covering some of today’s most popular songs. It is a glee club after all. What made it special was that no matter what type of person you were, there was always at least one character on the show you could make a real connection with.

From May of 2011 to just last month, Glee Live! In Concert! has been touring the world delivering some of the best covers seen on the show with all of the title cast members. Glee: The 3D Concert Movie is exactly what the title says; a 3D concert movie from the Glee tour. The film depicts the New Jersey leg of the concert at the Izod Center with behind-the-scene footage and interviews with some of the most diehard Gleeks you can meet.

All 14 central cast members from the show make an appearance on stage as they sing some of the shows most popular songs. They include “Don’t Stop Belivin’,” “Sing,” “Teenage Dream,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and more. If you’re a fan of Glee, then no doubt you’re going to love this concert. It’s full of flashy costumes, great visuals, and beautifully choreographed dance numbers. In essence, it’s everything you would expect out of a Glee concert.

That being said, it’s still just a concert film. Take away all of the scripted dialogue and stories of the show and basically you have a bunch of people on stage singing cover songs. Sure, they all have great vocal talent but I feel the film didn’t capture the whole meaning of what Glee is about. There are some interviews with people who have been inspired by various members of the Glee cast but I feel that wasn’t enough. Also, Jane Lynch aka Sue Sylvester on the show was notably absent. How can you have Glee without her? Apparently her appearance is being saved for the DVD version of the film. As to why, I have no idea.

As the film is only going to have a two week span in theaters, I feel it should have been skipped over and gone straight to DVD and Blu-ray. The 3D alone is not enough to warrant a ticket purchase. I mean, for the cost of two or three people to see it, you can already own the home version that will most likely feature more content. Is it really worth it? To the most dedicated Glee fans, yes, but to everyone else, probably not.

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie has some great moments, and the song selection will cater to everyone’s taste but ultimately doesn’t have that same impact as the show. The cast definitely has some talent, it’s just best when seen on the TV screen and not the big screen.

I won passes & a prize pack to see this from Regal on Facebook

They said they would direct message winners but never contacted me & so I sent then a message & they said it was to late to claim prize. Oh well, it doesn't seem like I missed much since it's just a C+.

First 3D flick

This was actually the first 3D Flick I have seen. I was surprised how 3D has evolved but disappointing that this "movie" was exactly like you say its like watching a concert with a couple little side stories. On top of that I think there song choices weren't that great as well. Oh well like you said I could have owned 2 copies of it for the cost of taking the fam to the theater.
