Parents with young children have such a wide variety of options when it comes to home entertainment in the DVD market, and while a lot of them try to offer up a Varity of shows all on one disc, very few manage to put together something that’s going to have a shelf life. Click, Clack, Moo. Cows That Type and more fun on the farm! offers a fine selection of stories for both parent and child that come alive with colorful and inventive animation and puts a spin on old tales as well as introduces both parent and child to some new ones as well. A total of 17 stories make up this collection all on three discs and after watching them all with my nephew without a doubt it’s a smart buy.

Disc one in the collection features four stories plus 3 more as a bonus. Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type is a story I’d never heard before but after watching it I liked it. Basically the cows find an old typewriter in the barn and decide to use it to make demands. Pretty soon everyone on the farm wants to get into the act. Chicken Little is another familiar story that gets a bit of a new spin which we enjoyed. Its great to watch some old favorites and find yourself amused when they go off in a totally new direction. It also helps to have some great narrators in Helen Hunt (Twister) and Hank Azaria (Night At The Museum) Very inventive and manages not to become novel. I, Crocodile is not a recognizable story but is quickly has that familiar feel ot it thanks to the narration by Tim Curry whose voice cannot be mistaken. The three bonus features were interesting, one of them even being a musical, but our favorite had to have been Let’s Give Kitty A Bath which is a silent short where two kids attempt to give their cat a bath resorting to masterfully well hatched plans that go beyond logic.

Disc Two begins back on the farm with Giggle, Giggle, Quack. Once again the story is narrated by country singer Randy Travis and stars the cows that type and the duck who, at the end of the other feature, learned a trick or two. There are a total of three farm stories on this disc all narrated by Randy Travis. Diary of a Worm, which is narrated by Alexander Gould (Finding Nemo) is a creative day in the life story of a worm. I always wonder why sometimes Scholastic will use adult narrators when the characters their trying to depict are supposed to be children. Gould does a great job here in his voice over work. Finally, in a follow up story to Diary of a Worm, its Diary of A Fly narrated by Abigail Spencer (Nim’s Island). I love how the first three stories all tie into one set of characters while the last two tie in together as well. The naivety of Fly makes the world she lives fresher somehow.

Finally on the third disc we are reconnected with Fly and Worm in Diary of A Spider narrated by Angus T Jones of Two and a Half Men fame. This is probably the weakest of the three discs with Spider and Roberto The Insect being the only really entertaining short stories. The Mysterious Tadpole is an older tale that many of us have read so unless your new to it you might get one, maybe two decent viewings out of it. A bonus story appears at the end of The Story of the Dancing Frog.

Bonus features for all discs include:
*Spanish Version of Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
*Spanish Version of Giggle, Giggle, Quack
* Spanish Version of Duck For President
*Interview with Illustrator Harry Bliss on Diary of a Fly
*Read-Along Subtitle Features
*Discussion Questions
*Bonus Stories:
The Story of the Dancing Frog
Hot Hippo
Waiting For Wings
Let’s Give Kitty A Bath
